Steve Au-Yeung
Profile
I took an early retirement in 2014 from Philips Electronics Hong Kong Ltd and moved to New Zealand with my family after 18 years of fruitful career in the Asia Pacific Regional Management capacity as Senior Director for Philips Procurement – Forwarding and Distribution. During my tenure, I made significant contributions including major milestones as being the architect to develop a procurement tool for Forwarding and Distribution in sea and subsequently air and courier freight, as well as some tailor-made portals for the US/Canada warehousing negotiations. I also initiated an open funding mechanism to facilitate carriers to take part in funding our operations based on successful volume of carriage of Philips’ freight.
While in Philips, I also initiated and successfully obtained funding from the Board of Management to set up and subsequently being the General Manager for a Trading and Services company for Philips in the Shanghai Free Trade Zone in year 1999 to allow Philips to legally be in a position to buy and sell Philips Electronics’ products in Philips’ Brand name, which was otherwise not possible back in those years.
Before I joined Philips in 1996, I was working in the capacity of logistics and supply chain management for three major computer companies (Hewlett Packard, Burroughs Machine, digital Equipment) focusing in the Hong Kong and China markets and also for four years working in Toronto, Canada under digital Equipment. One common thread in all these companies was that my major contributions were in setting up a new or expanding the existing small operation into a full-fletch operation unit and where, as well as in my years at Philips, I was able to achieve a record of having a stable organization with very little staff turnover, even in China, where staff turnover was easily in the range of 30% annually.
I describe myself as a proactive, motivated, and self-driven contributor and team player. I am particularly strong in execution, streamlining operations, maximizing organization efficiency. Marketing and sales is never my strength, although I am fairly strong on communication and presentation skills.
In my leisure time, I enjoy travelling and visiting different countries and cultures. Every summer and long school breaks, I have brought my family to many different parts of the world to open our eyes and mind.
I was not very sporty, but I was a fairly competitive table tennis player. I enjoy bicycling too, till I had both my knees replaced, which now brought me to a more or less standstill position in sports.
